VA Life Insurance Options
Veterans Affairs Life Insurance (VALife)
Get guaranteed acceptance whole life insurance if you have a service-connected disability.
Veterans’ Mortgage Life Insurance (VMLI)
If you have a severe service-connected disability, get mortgage protection insurance for a home that’s been adapted to meet your needs.
Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (SGLI)
Get group life insurance while you’re serving.
Family Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (FSGLI)
Add coverage for your spouse and dependent children (children who rely on you for financial support).
Traumatic Injury Protection (TSGLI)
Get short-term financial support to help you recover from a severe injury.
Veterans’ Group Life Insurance (VGLI)
Get group life insurance once you’ve ended your service.
VA Requirements
- SGLI coverage is automatic for most service members. VA Form SGLV 8286 (PDF) may be used to designate beneficiaries or reduce, decline, or restore coverage. This insurance can be converted to Veterans’ Group Life Insurance on separation from the service.
- Accelerated Benefits Option, which provides those insured under SGLI and VGLI with access to up to half of the value of their insurance if they are terminally ill with nine months or less to live.
